Working Meeting on Implementation of Istanbul Convention

On 20 November 2018, Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze participated in the working meeting organized by the Council of Europe, the theme of which was: "The Istanbul Convention - One Year of Implementation in Georgia".

Representatives of the government, international organizations and NGOs talked about the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, current challenges and future plans.

In her welcome speech, the Deputy Public Defender spoke about the situation of violence against women and domestic violence and noted that, along with the ratification of the Convention, it is of particular importance to facilitate its implementation, including through improving inter-agency coordination. In addition, she emphasized the Public Defender's recommendations relating to the challenges in the legislation and in practice.
