Adjara Television and Radio Endorses Public Defender’s Proposal

LEPL Adjara Television and Radio of the Public Broadcaster endorsed the proposal[1] of the Public Defender of Georgia on the issue of preventing and combating discrimination in the media space.

Based on the proposal of the Public Defender, in order to ensure the protection of the principles of equality and the prevention of hate speech, LEPL Adjara Television and Radio of the Public Broadcaster developed a special document “Freedom of Expression, Equality and the Role of the Broadcaster in the Prevention of Hate Speech” to improve the internal regulations of the broadcaster. At the same time, based on the aforementioned proposal, special training was provided to the employees of the media outlet on the identification and prevention of hate speech.

The Public Defender welcomes the measures taken by the Adjara Television, will continue to actively supervise the issues of preventing hate speech in the media, and emphasizes the importance of implementing effective measures in this direction in the broadcasting space.


[1] The Public Defender addressed Adjara Television with a general proposal on July 7, 2025, and called on it to conduct a comprehensive legal inquiry of all such cases in the future, to develop effective internal regulations for this purpose, and to implement specific measures to raise its employees’ awareness of equality in the media space.
