Training of Human Rights Academy of Public Defender for Undergraduate and Graduate Students of Journalism

On September 19-23, 2016, the Human Rights Academy of the Public Defender held training for 15 undergraduate and graduate students of journalism of Tbilisi and regional universities. The theme of the training was: “Coverage of gender issues and journalistic ethics.” It was the third training held by the Public Defender’s Office for journalists on the mentioned issue.

The training program included both theoretical and practical elements. The course was aimed at raising awareness of main issues of women's rights and gender equality. During the course the participants were introduced to standards of gender-sensitive reporting both in local and international practice; they also deepened their knowledge in the field of gender equality and women's rights.

The training was led by local expert Zviad Koridze, international expert Monica Elena and representative of the Public Defender's Office - Ana Lobzhanidze. Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze handed over certificates to the participants of the training after the completion of the course.

The training was held within the framework of the project “Support to the Human Rights Academy of the Public Defender” funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Three more trainings are planned to be held within the project this year in order to deepen knowledge, research and analytical skills of target groups in the field of legal and other aspects of human rights.
