Meeting on issues of violence against women in EUMM Office

On December 4, 2015, Ana Lobjanidze, the representative of the Department of Gender Equality of the Public Defender's Office, was invited to the office of the European Union Monitoring Mission, to discuss the issues of violence against women and domestic violence.

The meeting was held within the framework of a 16-day campaign of fight against gender-based violence. The meeting was attended by representatives of the EU Monitoring Mission, as well as the head of the Mission, Mr. Kęstutis Jankauskas.

In her report Ana Lobjanidze spoke about the main activities and directions of the Department of Equality of the Public Defender' Office. The main focus was put on the high rate of violence against women, major trends and challenges in this field, preventive measures implemented by the state and stereotypes existed in the society.

The presentation was followed by a discussion, during which participants expressed their interests in the following issues: awareness campaigns, effectiveness of protection mechanisms and Public Defender's role in fight against gender-based violence.
