Workshop for Ilia State University Law School students at the Public Defender's Office

On December 11, 2015, a workshop was held for Ilia State University’s Law School students within the framework of the course - "Gender and Human Rights".

Students met with Maka Stevenson, Head of the Department of Equality, and Ekaterine Skhiladze, Head of the Gender Equality Department. The Public Defender's activities in terms of studying of and responding to the cases of gender-based human rights violations and his powers defined by the Law on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination were discussed at the event.

The students had the opportunity to ask questions about various topics. In particular, they were interested in how discrimination cases were established, what mechanisms existed for the enforcement of the Public Defender’s decisions, etc. They also asked questions about women’s rights situation in Georgia: early marriage, domestic violence and violence against women, stereotypes and attitudes in the society, etc.
