Georgian Journalism Day

Journalism Day is celebrated on March 21 in Georgia. Public Defender of Georgia Levan Ioseliani congratulates representatives of the Georgian media on the Georgian Journalism Day and wishes them professional development and success.

The Public Defender particularly emphasizes the importance of existence of free and critical media for the democratic development of the country, protection of human rights and the rule of law, and indicates the responsibility of the Government to protect the rights of journalists and not to allow interference with their activities.

March 21 was established as Georgian Journalism Day by the Federation of Georgian Journalists and Tbilisi State University in 1993. On March 8, 1819 (March 21 in a new style), the first issue of the first Georgian newspaper was published.
