Public Defender of Georgia Met with the Representatives of the Council of Europe

On September 18, 2018 Nino Lomjaria, Public Defender of Georgia and Medea Turashvili, Senior Advisor of the Public Defender in Protection of Human Rights in Conflict Affected Regions met with Daniil Khochabo, Deputy to the Director of Political Affairs of the Council of Europe, Marcel Kapi, CoE Political Adviser and Christian Urse, Head of CoE Office in Georgia.

Public Defender discussed human rights situation in occupied territories of Georgia and stressed that free movement and gaining education in native (Georgian) language remain unresolved problems. She further underlined that failure to investigate and administer justice on cases of Otkhozoria and Tatunashvili are negatively reflected on the security of local population.

At the end of the meeting, Public Defender positively assessed contribution of the Council of Europe to confidence building and continuation of dialogue between Apkhaz and Ossetian society.

Delegation payed a visit to Georgia in the preparation of the next consolidation report on the conflict in Georgia for the period of April-September 2018. Secretary General of the Council of Europe prepares report on the conflict in Georgia biannually.
