Public Defender of Georgia Meets with Prosecutor General of Georgia
On October 1, 2025, Public Defender of Georgia Levan Ioseliani met with Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze.
The criminal justice policy of the country, issues of planning preventive measures, the practice of using measures of restraint, including alternative - non-custodial measures, were discussed at the meeting. Other topics inlcuded prevention of violence against women, femicide and child marriage. Attention was focused on juvenile justice, digital violence and other issues. The importance of cooperation between agencies was emphasized.
The Public Defender spoke about the situation of criminal justice in the country and expressed hope that future cooperation would contribute to improving the rights of victims, on the one hand, and defendants and convicts, on the other.
The Prosecutor General introduced the Public Defender to the reforms implemented in the Prosecutor's Office, with special emphasis on the effective investigation of criminal cases of ill-treatment and the active involvement of the Public Defender's Office in the cases of this category.
The meeting was attended by Elene Ghudushauri and Irine Chikhladze, Deputies of the Public Defender, Amiran Guluashvili, Deputy Prosecutor General, and Salome Shengelia, Head of the Human Rights Department.
