Public Defender Meets with Minister of Justice

Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, met with Rati Bregadze, Minister of Justice of Georgia. The Public Defender talked about the priorities of the Office and the main directions of cooperation for the purpose of strengthening protection of human rights.

The parties also spoke about the inter-state case Georgia v. Russia (IV), which was declared fully admissible by the European Court of Human Rights. The Minister of Justice discussed the measures to be implemented to protect the sovereignty of the country and the rights of the population living along the occupation line. Special attention was paid to the human rights of prisoners and the situation in the penitentiary system.

The Minister of Justice congratulated Levan Ioseliani on his election to the position of the Public Defender, wished him success and expressed his hope for close and fruitful cooperation with the Public Defender’s Office.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputies of the Public Defender, the Deputies of the Minister of Justice and the Head of the Special Penitentiary Service.
