Public Defender Meets with Students and Faculty of Kutaisi International University
On May 1, 2025, the Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, spoke with students and faculty of Kutaisi International University about the main findings of the annual report on the situation of human rights and freedoms in the country.
He particularly emphasized the situation in the occupied territories, including security problems, restrictions on Georgian language teaching, access to social services, and migration of ethnic Georgians.
He also spoke about women's rights, early marriage, domestic violence and femicide, and the need to more actively introduce and implement a programme aimed at correcting violent behavior of convicts in penitentiary institutions, and the need to create incentive mechanisms for this.
Regarding the rights of prisoners, he reviewed the mechanisms of justice and parole for life-sentenced prisoners, legislation of the country and challenges in practice.
