Public Defender Meets Members of Public Defender’s Council of Ethnic Minorities

On April 20, 2023, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani met with members of the Council of Ethnic Minorities of the Public Defender.

Representatives of ethnic minority organizations operating in Tbilisi and regions attended the introductory meeting. The attendees discussed problems and achievements relating to the ethnic minorities’ rights and integration, preservation of cultural and historical heritage, necessity of involvement of ethnic minorities in the political life, use of resources of the young generation, including graduates of the 1+4 programme, in the process of the country's development. Emphasis was placed on establishing relations with the population of conflict regions, especially Ossetian population of the Tskhinvali region, by using public diplomacy.

The Public Defender expressed his desire to deepen cooperation with the Council of Ethnic Minorities and noted that the relationship should be conducted within the mandate of the institution in order to make it possible to achieve certain beneficial results.
